The story

For our honeymoon we decided to take a 15-day tour of the United States and 8 days in Polynesia...

In Polynesia, on the agency's suggestion, we chose the islands of Bora Bora and Tikehau, and for both we chose the Pearl Beach Resort chain as our accommodation.

Bora Bora: The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of this island is certainly the wind... I don't know if it's always like that or if it was the time of year... but there was always too much wind, which kept the sea constantly rippled and choppy; the panorama is splendid because from the beach you have the volcano right in front of you, and this certainly makes it all very evocative; the sea of course is beautiful, but with few fish, and a bit disappointing for snorkelling lovers like us. The resort is fantastic, nothing to say!! We had the "Garden Pool suite", a bungalow inside the beach area with a private garden with a whirlpool pool.... everything fantastic... the only drawback was that the sun hardly ever hit the pool, so the water was always too cold to swim in (though we tried anyway).

Some young people we met had the overwater ones and said that, because of the strong wind, it was almost impossible to sleep.... even though it was the most "chic" accommodation, they hadn't been all that satisfied. The food chapter: there are 2 restaurants and a bar/restaurant, all à la carte, the only buffet meal being breakfast (very rich); at lunch we ate at the bar on the beach and I must say it was always all very good... in the evening at the restaurant the service was impeccable, while the cuisine, being French in style, perhaps for us Italians had a few too many sauces and spices... overall positive, anyway.

Tikehau The first thing we notice, coming from Bora Bora, is the absence of wind, and the impact is immediately fantastic... crystal-clear sea and above all flat, "swimming-pool effect"!! The other thing we notice at once is that the island is certainly smaller and more unspoilt than Bora Bora... an aspect that personally earns it quite a few points!! For Tikehau we treated ourselves to the overwater suite..... FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! In my opinion, in these places the overwater lets you experience the sea in a different way.... standing on your own veranda with direct access to the sea without even having to "bother" going to the beach... priceless!!!:-) Here too the snorkelling wasn't fantastic... better than Bora Bora but nothing special all the same... lacking the coral reef, you can't expect much!! Here too the food went well....

with the note that in the restaurant, in the evening, they made fantastic desserts!!

On the whole I can say I am happy to have been to Polynesia, but perhaps, also given how much it costs to go there, I wouldn't go back..... to be honest, the first time we went to the Maldives we came back with an enthusiasm that I didn't have for Polynesia!!
