On our on-the-road trip around the whole island of Ireland we also made sure to include a stop in Northern Ireland, with a taste of Belfast and Derry, focusing mainly on the north coast with its magnificent cliffs.
In Belfast I insisted on going to see the new Titanic museum, built this year to mark the 100th anniversary of its first and unfortunately only voyage, which ended as we all know... In Belfast a whole "district" has been created: the Titanic Quarter, to remind every visitor that the most famous ocean liner in history was born in this very city, where it was built at the beginning of the last century; this preamble is to say that the museum is beautiful, well done and focused mainly on the construction and on how it was fitted out and furnished... don't expect, though (like me...), to find objects recovered after the sinking, because you'll be very disappointed...
as my husband says: "they managed to put up an entire district on the Titanic without displaying even one fork that belonged to the liner..." We arrived in Belfast in the rain and all in all spending a few hours inside the museum wasn't bad, though perhaps I was hoping for something better, also given the not exactly cheap price... €13.50.
As for the northern cliffs, they absolutely deserve a visit... for us the trip to the Giant's Causeway was one of the best things of the whole holiday... faced with certain spectacles of nature you wonder how such things can exist without being attributed to a higher power.....
