Having found a convenient offer, I and my inseparable friends Vale and Simo decide to spend New Year in the BIG APPLE!! The expectations are huge... New York.... it almost seems incredible... the city you see in so many films and TV series that you almost feel you know it!! The days were few but the desire to see as much as possible was so great that.... legs at the ready... and off we went....!!! We walked an enormous amount...wandered the streets of Manhattan..."climbed" skyscrapers... we ventured onto the largest metro line in the world... strolled through Central Park and admired (from afar...) the shops of 5th Avenue As Italians we had lunch in the Little Italy district....and we got lost between Greenwich Village and SoHo, but all of it let us savour this immense and varied city even though we had little time!! The only disappointing thing was New Year's Eve...
everyone packed around Times Square from 4 in the afternoon... standing still... either you queued up to grab a little spot, or the area was off-limits!! We, who were staying in a hotel on Times Square, had to wear a bracelet like the ones in all-inclusive resorts so we'd be recognised and given access to the area... and then for what??? To watch a mini concert and see a gigantic ball that at midnight burst, throwing things like streamers everywhere (a sort of big piñata...) And then??? At midnight the party starts, right???.... No, it all ends like that...
and before one o'clock people head home and the police urge everyone to leave the streets....!!! The positive side was that, going to bed so early, in the morning we were already sprightly and on our feet for the last day of walking!! I think I'll be back in New York soon, also because at the time I didn't have a digital camera yet (in fact the photos I've posted aren't great because they're scanned) and, being a photo fanatic, I'm a bit disappointed with the ones I took on this trip... and then fundamentally my dream would be a coast to coast across the United States with my love... and starting from the Big Apple would be fantastic!!
