The story

To anyone who has never been to Scotland I warmly recommend this place. First of all there are cheap Ryanair flights, as well as guest houses and bed and breakfasts at very reasonable prices. We decided to stay at the Dalmore Lodge Guest House in Edinburgh, a B&B halfway between Edinburgh airport and the city centre, both reachable in 15 minutes thanks to the very efficient Scottish transport network. Edinburgh is a wonderful city full of unforgettable landscapes. The Victorian buildings and the many underpasses and tunnels make it full of mystery. Attractions not to be missed are without doubt Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the Royal Mile that connects these two places, with its restaurants and souvenir shops. The national museum and the royal museum are also interesting, both with free entry.

Among other attractions, the exhibition-museum Our Dynamic Heart is very interesting, showing through interactive routes, 4D films and multimedia games the birth and the changes of the earth, from its formation to today. A stop at Rosslyn is a must, where the mysterious church stands that legend links in some way to the Knights of the Temple. Cherry on the cake: in August the Fringe festival takes place in Edinburgh and usually ends with a fantastic pyrotechnic show, the Fireworks Concert. This year we were there (on 5 September) and I can well say that I witnessed the most beautiful fireworks display I have ever seen! Splendid fireworks are accompanied by the notes of the most beautiful soundtracks of all time. Among practical tips, I would like to point out how unfavourable the euro-sterling exchange rate is, so it is better to set off well informed.

At the cash machines it is possible to withdraw cash in the local currency with the best-known credit cards (including even the visa electron!!!! the very useful Postepay). I warmly recommend this destination to lovers of Nordic culture!
