Thanks to Ryanair, flying to Krakow for a weekend has become truly convenient, and if you then book a hostel it becomes a truly negligible expense. So it is that we decided to visit, over the long Easter weekend, the cultural capital of Poland.
The city is very well connected and also very easy to get around because it is concentrated within a very few kilometres. The city could ideally be divided into three areas: the centre proper, the castle and the Jewish quarter. Moreover, if you have time, a visit to the Oswiecim memorial museum (what we call Auschwitz-Birkenau) and the Wieliczka salt mines (pronounced vye-LEECH-ka) is also worthwhile.
Shortly I will complete the account with Krakow Centre Wawel - the castle and the dragon's lair Kazimierz, the Jewish quarter Tips for experiencing the city (bars, restaurants, food, and hidden doors)
