This year my boyfriend took me to see some nativity scenes. In reality I'm not a fan of the genre, but when I immersed myself in the first one I was so entranced that I decided to bring it to the site, even though it isn't a real trip.
The first one we visited is in Motella (province of Brescia), on a perfect day, with fog and cold so thick that they formed a layer of mist so intense it looked like snowfall (see photo).
The village is very small, but the signs for the nativity scene are very clear.
The Motella nativity scene display is apparently famous in the area because it's truly spectacular, with no geographical or historical errors, and the landscapes reproduced were created by professional set designers.
It's the reproduction, from the Annunciation to the birth of Jesus, set in the Palestine of the time, complete with "pits" for dyeing fabrics. Besides being extremely beautiful it's also very educational, because every trade is represented, almost like a documentary.
I believe the images (the attached photos) are worth 1000 words. If you decide to visit it, know that in the area you can also see others, smaller and more traditional but still very well made, at S. Giacomo.
