The story
On our way back from Austria we stop at the Fusine lakes, set in a limestone amphitheatre created by the ridge of the Picco di Mezzodì of Mount Mangart. The upper lake lies at 929 m above sea level, has a maximum depth of 10 m and an area of 9 ha; the lower lake lies at 924 m above sea level, has a maximum depth of 25 m and an area of 13.5 ha. Near the lower lake there are also two other tiny bodies of water, called the small lakes. The Upper lake feeds the Lower lake underground and the latter feeds the outflow of both lakes. Here too we manage to catch a few drops of rain and to eat a not particularly special strudel.
