The last stop of our trip in Tuscany is Pisa, where we had stopped perhaps for an hour back in 1990, passing through on our way to Piombino to take the ferry to the island of Elba, so long ago, another life! We park in a fairly convenient area for the centre, near the hospital. Piazza dei Miracoli welcomes us in its splendour, the climb up the Leaning Tower is indeed too expensive, so we opt for the Duomo and the Baptistery of San Giovanni, and we enjoy them in their beauty, taking a multitude of photos here too. We then move away from Piazza dei Miracoli, glimpse the building that houses the Scuola Normale, and reach the Arno.
Nearby, in a narrow alley, we find a characteristic restaurant, with tables in the courtyard too, where I eat a typical pasta dressed with pesto, the testaroli (perhaps though it's a typical Livorno dish...): it's the Osteria del Culegna, sincerely to be recommended. We return to Piazza dei Miracoli for one last look at the Tower and unfortunately get back in the car to head home.
