We arrive almost by chance at Monteriggioni, a small fortified village on the Sienese hills, often used as a setting for adverts and films. The place is very charming; climbing onto the walkway above the walls you glimpse wonderful landscapes. Along the route of the via Francigena, the road axis that linked Rome to Europe, Monteriggioni is a place almost out of time where art, history and landscape merge in a rare example of natural beauty. The fortifications, born around a pre-existing rural settlement of Lombard origin, date back to the year 1214. From Monteriggioni, heading back towards Siena and looking for a restaurant, we continue to Rapolano Terme on the border between the Val di Chiana and the Chianti, where we capture more panoramic views.
