The story

We drive up to the Stelvio Pass, the highest paved road crossing in Italy. Climbing from Trafoi there are 48 hairpin bends; it's a thrill... even though we're not on bikes like the many cyclists we pass. The view is wonderful, towards the Lombardy side and towards the snow-capped peaks. There are lots of people with skis and boots; it seems strange, it's August.
