A few days after the wonderful heat of the Red Sea, we go up to the Val Senales glacier. Coming from the Bolzano-Merano motorway towards Passo Resia, about 400 m after the Naturno tunnel you turn right for the Val Senales. Past Lake Vernago you reach Maso Corto, a village below the glacier and already at over 2000 metres of altitude. Then, climbing higher by cable car, you reach the world of the Val Senales glaciers (3212 m), near the spot where Ötzi, the man from the ice, was found. The panorama is indescribable, and you even put up with the low temperature. Up at altitude is the Berghotel Grawand, where you can stay to ski on the glacier. We enjoy an excellent slice of strudel using the discount of the "Glaciers and Palms" option, which allowed us to visit the Trauttmansdorff Gardens in Merano and ride the cable car up to the glacier at a nice saving.
Still up at altitude you can admire the Ötzi Show gallery, where various illustrative materials and reconstructions describe the life of "Ötzi" 5300 years ago.
