On this weekend in the Aosta Valley we visit Fenis Castle, dating back to the 13th century and enlarged in the 1400s by the feudal Challant family; it is the typical example of an Alpine medieval castle. Fenis is not on top of a hill, because it was built as a prestigious residence of the Challants. The inner courtyard is very beautiful, with its semicircular staircase and wooden balconies (unfortunately you cannot take photographs). You can visit the armoury, the dining room, the pantry, the kitchen and the study. The furnishings are not period pieces, as they are much more recent and part of a collection of Aosta Valley furniture. The views that follow one another as you go down towards the car park are lovely.
