Tired of the heat, we headed for the cool. Towards the Dolomites, taking a new road, not the usual one, we passed by Lake Barcis; we wanted to stop at the rest area but it was full, so we stopped at Erto for a visit to the museum dedicated to the Vajont disaster, then we carried on to Forno di Zoldo; there is a nice car park at the ice rink, a quiet spot just before the town centre. Along a lovely road through the woods you start climbing up to Pecol di Zoldo Alto, where for three days we stayed at Camping Civetta (€ 22.50 a day), with various walks in the surroundings and a climb to Pian del Crep by cable car (€ 6 return) and lunch at a self-service (€ 36.50).
At Corvara we stopped at Camping Colfosco (€ 27.50 a day), the first campsite where we had to pay for waste disposal (€ 3.00); that had never happened to us before, with various walks in the surroundings and shopping at a supermarket in the centre. On the way back we stopped at Lake Misurina and then at Brunico, a town we had already visited several times but always beautiful and interesting, especially the historic centre, Camping Bersaglio (€ 19.00). A stock-up of typical cheeses at a dairy in Dobbiaco and then home; the weather has turned cooler, it is raining.
