From Padua, Bassanello area, you follow the right bank of the Canale Battaglia. The long, straight embankment of the canal soon becomes unpaved and leaves the city behind, and after about ten kilometres of easy pedalling, crossing cross-roads and passing farmhouses and patrician villas, it approaches the hills and passes beside the complex structure of the sixteenth-century Castello del Catajo. Still along the embankment, you soon reach Battaglia Terme, once an important river hub. You arrive at Monselice. The approach to the town is beautiful. After wandering through the historic centre, with an optional climb to the Castle, the old Cathedral and the Seven Churches, you set off pedalling again, always keeping to the right bank relative to your direction of travel.
The stretch approaching Este is spectacular, for the views over the whole southern sector of the hills and the splendid cultivated countryside, as well as for the approach to the mighty walls of Este. Worth visiting is the Castle park and worth admiring the majestic Clock Tower.
