Enza and Gino (my cousin) are celebrating 25 years of marriage. Enza's idea was to go and spend a couple of days in Florence. We don't accept, making up a few rather flimsy excuses. Enza convinces her brother Benedetto and his wife Giovanna to go along. Since Florence is a destination of my work trips, my cousin asks me for advice on restaurants and hotels. So I knew about everything. To cut a long story short, on Friday the 28th the four of them set off by car at 3 pm and we (me, Paola, Antonio and Chiara) take the Eurostar. Naturally the lady at the hotel is tipped off, the restaurant "antico ristoro di' cambii" is booked for Saturday evening. The four of them reach Florence at 6 pm, go to their room and wait to go out for dinner. We four arrive outside the hotel at 7.05 pm. The (legendary) lady lets us know that they're in their room. We go up and that's where the show begins.
Enza, Giovanna, Gino and Benedetto are left, as we say back home in Sicily, "imparpagliati" (dumbstruck). A surprise pulled off beautifully, and two days in Florence in the name of fun and the wonderful things this city has to offer.
