The story
A beautiful sunny day spent in Sirmione, on Lake Garda. It's a place I'd often heard about but had never seen, even though everyone told me it was worth seeing: so we made up our minds and reached it in less than two hours on a hot Sunday in July. A favourite destination of foreign tourists (especially Germans), Sirmione is really lovely: it's a strip of land facing Lake Garda, and at its tip you find the villa where Catullus stayed during his lifetime. Also very beautiful is the castle, from whose towers you get a splendid view over the town and the lake, and the little streets of the central area are lovely too, offering very picturesque views.
