This year we decided to spend Easter week on the slopes of Sestriere. Usually, instead, we used to go skiing in Cervinia with the camper.
We discovered that there is a paid car park equipped for campers near the slopes.
The ski area is immense and the slopes are beautiful. In fact, though, they are a little confusing, because it's a succession of crossings between unsignposted slopes. You constantly find yourself at junctions without knowing what you are choosing. Probably those who know the ski area well don't run into these difficulties, which in my view do exist. Moreover, for anyone used to the Dolomites (and not only), it will seem rather strange not to have larches or firs along the edges. It is all white slope and, for anyone used to also admiring breathtaking scenery, there will be a disappointment. That said, the ski area is immense and the slopes are excellently maintained and varied.
For those who want to go for walks (or cross-country skiing) there are many trails, including easy ones. For example there is a path leading to a tiny village reachable only on foot, all made of wood. And then there is a fantastic private castle that will serve as a backdrop for your photographs.
The village of Sestriere is the classic tourist town with many hotels of various categories, restaurants and bars, and shops for shopping. Of course prices are not very convenient compared with big cities like Milan and Turin, but then again, that's only normal.
