A weekend in Cadore

To take advantage of a Groupon coupon, we carved out a weekend in Cadore. First stop Auronzo di Cadore and its lake, with a lovely lakeside walk. Overnight at the Dolomiti hotel in Pieve di Cadore, a hotel a little stuck in the past, now held back by the economic crisis, in a fine position but in need of radical renovation. Pieve di Cadore is the birthplace of Titian. Not far away, a road leads towards the Antelao mountain hut, at almost 1800 metres of altitude; you drive along an unpaved, potholed road, then try to leave the car in one of the very few available spaces, and then walk through the woods until you reach the hut, where you find excellent food and enjoy a beautiful view. Back in the valley, a walk to Lake Calalzo is not to be missed.
