Three days and two nights in the mountains, between hikes and climbs amid the glaciers, to spend a Ferragosto unlike any other.
Day 1, Friday 13 August 2004
We leave the car at Chiareggio. We load our backpacks onto our shoulders and, along the trail, we reach the Longoni refuge - 2450 m, Sassa d'Entova, Tel. 0342/45.11.20
Day 2, Saturday 14 August 2004
We set off at dawn for the ascent of the Scerscen Inferiore glacier: our goal the Tremogge. The weather, however, is terrible and we have to reverse the ascent: go up via the Scerscen and come back down via the Tremogge, on the advice of the mountain guide and manager of the refuge. The wind is freezing and our faces are struck by the snow blown off the peaks. We suffer a lot from the cold and, once on the glacier, we have to come back down via the Scerscen again, because clouds close in over the Tremogge and visibility would be nil. The mountain demands respect and, in return, rewards us with breathtaking landscapes and truly splendid nature. WORTH IT! Back to the Longoni refuge in the afternoon.
Day 3, Sunday 15 August 2004
A day devoted to climbing in the area near the Longoni refuge with a couple of friends who joined us for the occasion. While I'm at an elementary level, the others are very good and follow me patiently. Back to the car, at Chiareggio. In the evening, return to Milan
