The story

A trip towards Bavaria, to follow the Romantische Strasse, from Fussen to Wurzburg, more than 300 km with stops in wonderful places. We visited Rottenbuch, Schongau, Landsberg am Lech, Augsburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Wurzburg, Veitshochheim, Dinkelsbuhl, Nordlingen, Donauworth, Dillingen, Fussen and the castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. The weather wasn't on our side and ruined the views and photos a bit; 8 degrees without sun isn't the best for an itinerant trip with so many things to see.

The most beautiful places not to be missed? Certainly the little church of Rottenbuch, a rococo jewel; beautiful Landsberg on the banks of the Lech river; we saw Augsburg, the largest of the cities we passed through, a bit hurriedly; simply unique Rothenburg ob der Tauber despite the rain, with the town hall with facades in different styles and the famous Wohlfarth shop, Christmas items only all year round, something indescribable; in Wurzburg must-sees are the Residenz and the Marienberg fortress; nearby the castle of Veitshochheim and the little village on the river banks are also worth it; in Dinkelsbuhl the town walls are beautiful, as in Nordlingen; Fussen disappointed us a little, but nearby at Schwangau there are two castles not to be missed, the fairy-tale castle, Neuschwanstein, and the yellow castle Hohenschwangau; we had already visited them many years ago so now we limited our

selves to photos of the exteriors. Pleasant to refuel in Austria (1.26 euros), not quite in Germany (1.45 euros). We slept in Augsburg at the B.&B. hotel (double room with breakfast 67.80 euros), in Veitshochheim at the hotel Weisses Lamm, very characteristic but at 100.00 euros, and in Dillingen at the hotel zur Donau at 56.00 euros, always with excellent and abundant breakfasts. In Augsburg, on the central Maximilianstrasse we found a typical brewery, a festive atmosphere and rivers of beer (and at exceptional prices compared with the Italian standard, 3.00 euros for half a litre of beer); in Veitshochheim we dined in a typical restaurant in the centre; in this season they offer asparagus in every possible recipe; in Dillingen special dishes with roast beef, speck, onions, potatoes and eggs, chosen almost at random from a menu strictly in German only.

In general we ate very well, dining for two with less than 30 euros.
