After savouring the cool of Mont Cenis we arrive in Chambery in the afternoon, the heat is scorching. A stroll through the centre, the elephants are still there. The following morning we seek relief towards the lakes, but in vain. We have lunch at Aix-les-Bains, on Lake Bourget, packed with bathers. We continue to Annecy, as beautiful as many years ago, the water of the canals through the middle of the town is a stunning blue, reflected in the lake, but the heat ruins everything, the water fountains are stormed. We had passed through Annecy in July 1995, on the way back from Paris, it was much less hot and we were struck by the fact that at the pedal-boat rental they accepted credit cards. Heading back towards Chambery we climb to a viewpoint from which you enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Bourget. It is the last image from Savoy; the next day we take Marco home.
