It was our first trip to Austria and certainly the most beautiful, first of all because it was made with our children still young, and then also because it was blessed by glorious sunshine. We visited Salzburg, with the Hohensalzburg fortress, the Mirabell gardens, the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace, and admired Anif Castle from afar. Hellbrunn Castle with its water games was splendid. Then we ventured onto the lakes that surround the city, from the Mondsee to the Wolfgangsee (don't miss the boat trip to St. Wolfgang), and then on into Germany on the Chiemsee, where we boarded for the island of Herrenchiemsee with the spectacular Konigschloss, Ludwig's castle; and then the Konigsee too. Still in the area, don't miss the Freilichtmuseum, the open-air museum - there are several in Austria.
A wonderful experience to arrive in Hallein, then go up by cable car to the Salzbergwerk and thus visit the salt mines of Bad Nurnberg. Wonderful memories of a hospitable country....
