After a week touring Sri Lanka we decide on a relaxing week in the Maldives... What can I say, for us it was the second time and I must admit that, as much as “the Maldives are always the Maldives”,... the first time was better... Let me explain: the period certainly had an influence because the first time was April and the week was always splendid, full of sunshine and good weather, this time instead being July and therefore not exactly the best period things went less well.... if I had to say we never had a day that was beautiful from morning to evening... generally very early in the morning it was nice, with clear sky and sea, towards the afternoon instead the first clouds began to arrive which often brought rain in the evening.
As for the island, however, the story is different... the resort is decidedly splendid, the food is excellent and the services impeccable; as for the sea I didn't find it as splendid as I remembered from the previous experience, this above all because of the protective breakwaters there are near the shore, partly because they “disfigure” the view and then because being rocks they let algae and other things go into the sea that “dirtied” the water; moreover, as the weather wasn't fine and clear the sea was often rough and a bit murky so much so that we couldn't do our beloved snorkelling.
Certainly if I were to return to the Maldives I would opt for an island without breakwaters to avoid risking seeing this earthly paradise “disfigured”.
