The story

At last I can say I've set foot in the Caribbean Sea... Isla Margarita is a true corner of paradise... Playa el Agua is a long white beach lined with coconut palms and crystal-clear water at the far north of the island. It's the beach where all the tourists land, well equipped and very calm. The residents are very welcoming and friendly, it's easy to see them on the beach selling fresh fish, doing braids and massages or simply playing instruments.. Playa Parguito, south of Playa el Agua, is very similar but less crowded with tourists.. In the interior of the island you can visit the Castillo de la Asunción, a small defensive fortress; inside there's a little museum of weapons and portraits from the period when it was in use.. The Basilica Nuestra Señora del Valle, in San Juan Bautista, a small town in the centre of the island, is famous; the Venezuelan people are mostly Catholic.

Very distinctive and interesting to see is the Restinga lagoon, an aquatic nature park lined with mangroves where we even manage to see a pelican! You just have to hire (always cheap) a little boat that a local man steers among the channels to enjoy the green landscape..the park is truly immense!! A beach worth visiting is Punta Arenas, a little hard to reach (you have to cross the island..) but it offers a stunning coastline that is almost entirely unpopulated!! The typical drink is the Coco Loco, there's even a little stall lost in the interior of the island famous for the cocktail..and it's really good!!! It's an island that's easy to visit, easy to get around and inexpensive. There are little shops and markets everywhere where you can "barter" typical objects at ridiculous prices...

Calling Italy is very cheap from the call centres scattered all over the island, especially in the tourist spots..

Absolutely worth visiting!
