The story
Caracas could be interesting with its shanty towns were it not for the high degree of risk that discourages, if not forbids, visiting it. Very scenic Canaima, on the edge of the forest, with an unmissable visit to Angel Falls (the spectacle made us forget the "deluge" suffered along the canoe route...), Los Roques is worth a visit, a stunning sea and a beautiful view from the plane. For the rest, Ciudad Bolivar is anonymous and Margarita Island forgettable; beaches and sea absolutely insignificant, they don't make you forgive the squalor of the run-down neighbourhoods with their nightclubs, the hotel casinos and the shopping centres, cathedrals in the desert of failed tourist development.
