Ladies and gentlemen, here is Buenos Aires, the city of Carlos Gardel's tango.
Having arrived in this megalopolis just a few days ago I've already gathered quite a bit of musical material and exciting experiences. Buenos Aires is big, chaotic, polluted, dense, wonderful. Here it's still hot even though autumn is already well advanced. Music is everywhere, you just have to walk along Avenida Florida, a pedestrian street in the city centre, paced by the various artists who make free with music, painting, theatre, mime. In the underground they keep dancing to Brazilian rhythms or jazz or folk. Tango is a bit everywhere, but if you want to see the real tango, that is the one not for tourists, I recommend going to "Torquato Tasso" at Defensa 1500. Here they put on the most beautiful tango and folklore shows I've ever seen. Then, coming out, I recommend filling your stomach at "Desnivel", where you can taste the best parrillas in S.
Telmo, a breathtaking neighbourhood where they dance tango in the small cobblestone square. Another interesting venue is in the barrio of Abasto, the neighbourhood where Carlos Gardel was born. It's called "La Maroma" and if you're lucky a singer, man or woman, comes in and performs beautiful songs, interrupting the din of the "guzzlers" with the melancholy notes of tango.
