We leave the California coast and head for LAS VEGAS, making several stops: we visit the famous windmills of TEHACHAPI, do some shopping at the BARSTOW outlet and then visit CALICO GHOST TOWN... it's a long drive... but finally in the distance we glimpse LAS VEGAS... We're left speechless.... the spectacle is extraordinary... this city of a thousand colours amid arid land with very little vegetation.... The first night we stay at the CIRCUS CIRCUS hotel... which is like a big circus tent... so many lights... at night the city is lit up like day... what a marvel.... I carry LAS VEGAS in my heart.. I liked it so much.... it's fun for a while, you forget your problems... you just think about enjoying yourself... There are gondolas and it feels like being in Venice.. there's the Eiffel Tower and it feels like being in Paris,.. there's the Statue of Liberty and it feels like New York...
in short, everything incredibly majestic... the battle between the pirates.. the water shows of the BELLAGIO Hotel and ancient Rome.... Tiredness starts to set in and so we're forced to go to bed... The next day we move to our hotel LUXOR (booked through an agency) where, after spending the day among the arcades and the mega HOTELS, we dive into its majestic pool.... The hotel rooms are enormous and 10 people could fit in the shower.... what luxury... once in a lifetime you have to come to LAS VEGAS.... maybe to get married......
The next day we set off again for the GRAND CANYON; the guides advise taking jerrycans of water because it's very hot... and so we fill up at a petrol station that sells them.... Well, when we arrive there's a crazy storm and it's very cold... We leave our suitcases in our hotel, Best Western Squire Inn, luckily booked through an agency... I recommend booking because otherwise finding a place to sleep is very difficult.... Despite the rain we still go to discover the GRAND CANYON... To enter the park you have to pay a ticket for each vehicle, which is then valid for the whole week... you can enter and leave as many times as you want... We leave the car in a car park and start the visit on foot... The sights are extraordinary: the multicoloured layers of rock, the cliffs, the fissures.. and when sunset comes it's a unique attraction.... unforgettable....
you have to be careful because leaning out is dangerous... but we lose ourselves in the red colours and the beauty of this gash in the arid desert of the Southwest. In the evening it keeps raining and we go to eat in a beautiful STEAK HOUSE where there's a typical American waitress.... The next morning we get up at 4 to see the sunrise but it's less exciting than the sunset.... we go back for our suitcases and set off again for MONUMENT VALLEY.... Needless to say the spectacle is breathtaking.... the majesty of nature is truly surprising.... you feel like you're in a western film and hope to see John Ford arrive at any moment.. I recommend booking the hotel because we drove all over and ended up at Lake Powell where we finally found somewhere to sleep... It's a very popular and very beautiful tourist spot...
we couldn't do the boat trip because everything was booked there too, I recommend booking before the trip.... but we did have a swim.... We set off again for Los Angeles, our last stop.... Along the way I don't recommend staying in FLAGSTAFF; the little town looks nice, but in reality the motels are dirty.... and the train passes every half hour.... We had a crazy good time though, at the Chinese restaurant.... we weren't lucky with the food either... never mind, the important thing is the company....
