I had already been to the west coast of the United States in 1999 and in 2002, but this time I wanted to go back to take someone who deserved it. My uncle.
Day 15 Oct 2006
We arrive in Los Angeles in the early afternoon, rent the car and then off to San Diego. We wouldn't want to return to LA anymore, but it won't be like that At night we sleep in San Diego, then the next day we go around a bit before leaving for Arizona. Next stop: Yuma.

Day 27 Oct 2006
Towards Phoenix
I don't hide that I adore Arizona, I just can't stay away from it, even though Phoenix is honestly a city without too many attractions. but for me it had one: I went there to see my first football game: Cardinals - Chiefs. A very intense emotion. A day I won't forget

Day 310 Oct 2006
Tucson, then the Grand Canyon
After leaving Phoenix we go to Tucson to visit a friend who studies there at the university, then we head towards Nogales, for a quick trip to Mexico. Then we head back towards Williams and Route 66

Day 414 Oct 2006
On horseback in Monument Valley
After leaving Williams we arrive at Lake Powell, then the Grand Canyon, then Bryce. Fantastic sunny days, with breathtaking scenery. But the best is yet to come, because in the afternoon we ride for a couple of hours in Monument Valley following a trusty Indian guide. Impossible to forget.

Day 518 Oct 2006
Utah and then Las Vegas
Utah brings us bad luck, there's nowhere to sleep in the Moab area, and we have to drive until three in the morning to find a place at a motel. The next morning we head for Las Vegas: we sleep at the Luxor. I've been there too, but it's worth going back. Not much gambling, lots of pool for us.

Day 618 Oct 2006
A bit of Police
After leaving Las Vegas we go to Barstow, in California, where there are famous outlets. Bad idea: they steal a passport, phone and credit card from us. It'll be all reports, police stations, the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles. But the story ends well and we can go finish our vacation in San Francisco

Day 720 Oct 2006
Golden Gate, I miss you
I consider San Francisco the most beautiful city in the world, in terms of scenery perhaps matched only by Cape Town. I'm in love with it and I don't have much to say except that I go back whenever I can. My uncle in the bay looking around and saying "What a sight" with his ecstatic face, is worth the price of the whole trip.
