After so many attempts, always failed, to go to Canada in August, this is finally the year!! After always having preferred other, more tourism-appealing destinations...for our tastes...now all that's left is this damn Canada that looks at us from the pages of the atlas and says..."guys, look, I'm always here and sooner or later you'll have to deal with me!!" So this year it's decided: Canada! Quebec and Ontario! Air France flight to Montreal on the way out and return from Toronto, departing from and arriving at Nice (it cost us less and besides we often spend our holidays there so.......we don't even lose an hour of holiday, we come back and then another lovely week in the sun of the Cote d'Azur!!).
Montreal at first visit leaves us a bit disappointed....it looks like an "ugly" French city (we know France better than Italy!!!) with only the port area being nice (3 streets in the style of 19th-century France...) and for the rest a modern city with all the shops concentrated on St Catherine Street, quite a few skyscrapers but nothing special!! (maybe because we were in New York not long ago...) All in all a bit of a disappointment, the shops are the same as the French ones too......it's bilingual as a country but in Montreal they practically only speak French.
Car rental with satellite navigation, which turns out to be essential to avoid wasting time on wrong roads (for those with little time like us it's a must!!), we set off and go to Quebec City....a very beautiful city (but with few souls) all in the style of the towns of the Loire area, complete with a castle and fortress!! Beautiful, but we ask ourselves?? Did we come all this way to see a little 18th-century French town??!! We resume the journey and head for Ottawa, the capital......at this point we don't expect much more from this trip.....instead Ottawa turns out to be one of the most beautiful cities we've seen....the parliament square is truly beautiful (here everything seems to have a strong Anglo-Saxon influence), beautiful squares, beautiful streets, very clean, and in the evening a whole district becomes pedestrian and there are lots of little restaurants and little bars where it
becomes lovely to stroll. We set off for Toronto convinced that there the fun begins....ohhhhhhhhhhhhh........it's the classic ugly American city....only English is spoken and apart from the centre with lots of skyscrapers and the CN Tower, said to be the tallest tower in the world, for the rest a real disappointment!! Shopping is also rather expensive....so I say again...why did we come all this way?? The only real thrill of the holiday was the trip to Niagara Falls...a true marvel!!!! All in all, a bit of a disappointment!!!!!!! Hi everyone Max
