This trip has a particularly symbolic value for us because it represents a sort of training for what will be our real trip in September.
We decided to travel with local public transport and change destination every day... we'll see..

05. 05. 2011 Larnaca (CYPRUS)
In Cyprus they speak Greek, the euro is used (recently), driving is on the left. Larnaca immediately surprised me positively, this small town is rich in history that goes back even to the times of Jesus... the famous Lazarus ("rise and walk") after his resurrection seems to have taken refuge right here until he even became Bishop of Kition... Everywhere, in fact, there are sacred images, iconography that forms the bulk of the souvenir business.
06. 05. 2011 Limassol (CYPRUS)
[Stefania]: "At 10.30 we take the bus to Limassol. The landscape is a succession of gentle little hills, olive groves and vines. Limassol is a big city, twice the size of Larnaca. The guest house that Mark found on the internet is really very particular, starting with the owners: Sergio and Dean (two former hippies), I already like it!
It feels like I'm living in a film in here. I met Dean through the Lonely Planet forum and from his profile photo I thought he was an admirer of Tiziano Terzani, given the long white beard and snow-white hair down to his shoulders. Instead it was really him! What a character! The guest house is located right in the city centre along Ayou Andreou Street, a street very crowded with tourists! The interior is a real museum. Even the smell seems like that of a place from another time.
There is a wall crammed with books, novels, a few Lonely Planets of faraway places that have nothing to do with Cyprus, old photos and furniture from another century! The coolest thing is that we have a little balcony that looks right onto the main street! It was very relaxing to play cards enjoying the last rays of sun of another unforgettable day, sipping canned coconut juice or the delicious fresh mango fruit salad prepared by Ste'.
Limassol is the second city of Cyprus by size as well as the birthplace of my Cypriot friends from Oxford College. A pity we didn't manage to meet after 13 years! We spent the day between visiting the Byzantine Castle, various Orthodox churches, ending up dozing on the cliff warmed by the sun and cooled by a gentle breeze!
