The story

First of all, a practical tip to save as much as possible!! Since London isn't a cheap destination because of the pound and New Year is the most expensive period of the year, I'd advise booking at the Youth Hostels. We booked the low-cost Ryanair flight well in advance, and the same for the accommodation. It's the only way to keep costs down!! The hostel was right in the city centre, at Piccadilly Circus, the metro stop was a minute's walk from us... couldn't have been more convenient!! For meals there's an endless choice, depending on personal tastes you'll find the right place for you.

A nice outing to do is the one by boat on the Thames, but go at least as far as Greenwich, both the park and the observatory, where point 0 is — the Greenwich meridian, in fact — are worth it!! Absolutely not to be missed is a visit to Portobello Road and Notting Hill, a splendid, clean and characterful district!! Absolutely to be seen is the British Museum, but allow a good few hours to visit it, as it's really big! Take a ride on the London Eye, there's a big queue at the entrance, but then you'll be rewarded by a breathtaking view over the whole city In any case London, despite being spread out, is easy to get around: the metro stops reach everywhere and even with only a few days available you can see many of its monuments!!
