Thanks to a quick search on the internet, we find the price that suits us..for a little more than 500 euros each, British Airways takes us to Bridgetown, departing from Genoa!! Impossible to give up so much convenience!! High season runs from November to May...perfect!! Beautiful island, wonderful inhabitants, great climate always breezy (at least in the period when we were there..). Barbados faces both the Caribbean Sea and the ocean; the contrast is incredible: on one side the turquoise colour and on the other the impetuous sea (dangerous to swim on the eastern side..but what views!!!!!) Our little girl was travelling with us, no adjustment problems for her, the supermarkets are well distributed across the island and well stocked.
Of course, doing the shopping in Barbados or in Italy you don't notice much difference..rather an expensive destination, but if you choose an apartment as we did, all in all the expenses are more than contained. The beaches we liked most were Miami Beach and Payne Beach..splendid!! Many beaches are equipped, others are covered by shady trees that work better than umbrellas.
There is a tree called manchineel (recognisable by the small green apples it produces), very dangerous, found practically everywhere; the important thing, they explained to us, is not to stay under the tree when it rains because even the drops falling from the leaves cause burns to the skin; if you're hit by the milk anyway (when maybe a small branch breaks) wash yourself immediately with sea water..luckily we didn't experience the pain produced by this milk!! Try the flying fish sandwich!!! Never tasted a better snack than this local speciality!! Absolutely not to be missed!! Currency: Barbados dollar, but the American dollar is also accepted practically everywhere; the exchange rate is more or less 1 US dollar = 2 Barbados dollars Car hire: we booked on site for 12 days and a car cost us around 400 euros.
The party at the Oistins fish market on Friday and Saturday is wonderful; the whole island gathers there to dance and eat at one of the dozens of stalls that cook fish (a kind of village festival). Language: English Tourism: mainly English...never saw an Italian in 13 days. What else to say? It's a destination for everyone, and with a little care it can even be a destination for every pocket!!
