Monte Generoso

Monte Generoso lies astride the border between Italy and Switzerland. From Capolago a rack railway departs that takes you up to the summit. You can also reach it by car, arriving as far as the Bellavista station, where there is a large paid car park and then you continue either on foot along a path that takes about an hour to reach the top, or by taking the little train that stops at this last station before the summit. The ticket from the Bellavista station to the summit, return, costs about €18. From the summit you can admire a magnificent panorama over the Lake of Lugano below, the peaks of the surrounding mountains and the Po Valley that is lost on the horizon! There is also a small astronomical observatory and the planet trail. Go there on a clear day, otherwise you'll miss all the surrounding panorama!
