Formentera experienced in September is very much worth it!! The transparent water, the many beaches and the tranquillity that only the month of September can give to a Mediterranean spot will make your stay unforgettable!! Of course, you can't say it's a cheap destination, but by renting an apartment and doing your shopping in the countless supermarkets you save a lot!! Not to be missed: the Hippy market on Wednesdays and Sundays, the visit to the windmill where Bob Dylan stayed, the enchanting Cala Saona, Torre de sa Gavina, Far de la Mola, Cap de Barbaria and the surprising and indescribable Caribbean-style beach of the Ses Salines nature park. The island is very different from Ibiza, so you won't find discos and venues open all night; but in the evening, after a day at the beach and a stroll along the Es Pujols seafront, it'll come naturally to go back to your room to rest and chat.
I'd advise you not to rely on tour operators for the various excursions, since the island is very easy to explore on your own; all you need is a map provided by the tourist office in Es Pujols and a rented means of transport (you'll be spoiled for choice, ask several quotes around before choosing whom to go with!!)
