The story

Deciding on a holiday in Spain: tent, little stove and car, yes the car, Ferrara - Costa Brava - Barcelona there and back, On the Road. We left at 3 in the morning from Ferrara, it was a thrilling adventure. Improvising is what I love: you sleep in the car if you can't find a campsite and you do whatever you want, you feel free from everything and everyone. First stop the Costa Brava, we crossed France between rain and sunshine. But we got there, not as soon as I wrote, it took its time. We looked for a little spot we liked to camp. The village was called Cala del Palafrugell. Really really really lovely, small but full of life, the sea is a stone's throw away, the restaurants on the shore serve a Catalan paella that's not bad at all, I highly recommend it.

The sea is very beautiful, unfortunately the beaches are a bit small and crowded, more than that they fill up at midday because people get up late and have lunch at 4 pm, so they're on the beach at the hottest time... whatever. There are nice fish to see, I recommend a bit of snorkelling. We tried various beaches nearby, very beautiful. Off to Barcelona. We drove into a mess of streets and traffic, we hadn't even noticed we were inside. We camped a bit outside, the campsites aren't close to the city. We decided not to move the car from the campsite, too much traffic in the centre, and besides there's a very handy little train that takes you into the city in half an hour. The city is beautiful. I was struck by Las Ramblas, the Sagrada Familia and so many things I'd never finish describing. The aquarium is very nice. I don't recommend the wax museum.

The metro is always handy and easy to understand for getting around anywhere. The Sagrada Familia is beautiful on the outside, inside it's a building site, so I advise against paying to go in. Walk walk walk everywhere. We set off as two and came back as three: a little duck bought on the Ramblas came home with us. It really was an unforgettable holiday... I recommend it to anyone who loves camping with all its pros and cons... and to anyone who loves the warmth of Spain.... Happy travels, bye bye
