The story

if you want to know more or see all the photos visit: 30. 08. 2003 Kranj (SLOVENIA) And who would ever have said it? I'm in Slovenia for a girl! That's the beauty of an interrail too... you decide your destinations day by day based on what happens to you during the trip... We were very worn out after a whole night of travelling and without sleeping, for fear that we'd be robbed again or that we wouldn't get off at the right station for the train change. We arrive at 5.30 in the morning in the Slovenian capital and after endless waiting we learn that because of an International Conference there isn't a hole to sleep in. But, as always happens, unexpectedly, angels fall from the sky to help you and sweet Ana managed to book us a couple of nights where she is staying! In Kranj! A quiet little village in the Julian Alps.

Having arrived at the station, the woman at the Tourist Information, to give us a hand, calls us a taxi, but we, as true interrailers, meet a lorry driver who loads us up with all our backpacks and takes us all the way to our "college". [Luca]: Today is the eighteenth day of the trip and I feel an enormous weight of memories on my shoulders! 31. 08.

2003 Ljubljana (SLOVENIA) Ljubljana is always the same! Nothing has changed! A really dead city, pretty, green, clean, well-kept but far too quiet! A place for old people! It's Saturday afternoon and there's nobody around! We decide to go back to Kranj! But kilometres and kilometres on foot to find an internet cafe to organise the trip home to Italy, and we didn't even manage it! It means we'll head back to our homeland on an adventure! But we stop in a supermarket to buy what we need for our Italian-style dinner! What a shame we couldn't organise one for the dear four Slovenian lads we met here! They were so sweet! They would have appreciated it! I'll never forget the light shining in their eyes as they kept asking, to be sure they'd understood correctly, whether, if they came to visit us at home in Italy, we'd put them up for free! They kept asking us and then in unison: "Really? Really

?" (Really?) Or as they pronounced it. "Weally"! Tonight a storm of water broke out. Is the sky weeping at our departure? [Luca]: Kranj. Little but good. We rested and ate plenty for two days! 01. 09. 2003 Ljubljana (SLOVENIA) [Luca]: Today we've got a bad night on the train ahead of us but we do it gladly after so much Slovenian rest! On this trip I've seen people again: Vale, Klara, Marta... People who perhaps, when we said goodbye, would never have thought that one day we might meet again! Just as I'm sure we'll see again the people we met on this new interrail! The sun... We're almost in Italy! How I wish I wouldn't forget everything that's happened in these days. For now I look at these woods and think that here time has stood still for centuries... Perhaps these trees hold the "secret"... When I think about my life I see a man looking at the world in a train corridor...

He leans out of the window... The scenery outside races by... He is fascinated... His time passes but he seems not to notice, so great is the speed of the background... His eyes race quickly... They linger for a moment on a house... On a little station... Then they are lost again... He is travelling again. 02. 09. 2003 Venice (ITALY) The absolute novelty of this trip were the hostels! They cost little and are full of people from all over the world... It happens that in the morning you wash next to a Japanese person, have breakfast beside a Brazilian, sleep next to a Finnish girl, pause for a moment at reception and the world passes before you, then we lovers of geography and of contact with other people and of the world in all its facets....

It starts with a: "Hey, where are you from?" And the game is on! Here in Venice I see all these interrailers and I think, who knows where they come from, where they're going, what they'll do... I feel empty inside because I won't get to know them, I feel so small because, shut inside a military school, I lose millions of chances a minute to meet new people! [Luca]: Twenty days crammed with too many things and the desire to set off again straight away says it all! [ continues on: ]
