Bratislava is a very quiet capital, beautiful and clean. The visit to the UFO is an absolute must (you can also dine there, the view is breathtaking, only it's expensive, from 40 € a head upwards; but you eat well!). Life is very cheap, and so is the porcelain! There are little kiosks open until late at night selling giant sandwiches for...0.80 €, made with mayonnaise, cooked ham, raw white cabbage and, if you like, pickled cucumbers. Put that way it doesn't sound like much, but I assure you it's a real delight!! The city lies in an area where the Carpathians are very close, but in general Slovakia has very good vineyards. In fact there are wine bars where you can taste glasses of wine; naturally I went, because I adore these things. Many people, especially in summer, sit at the outdoor tables tasting local ice creams or cakes (very good!), beers or glasses of wine.
A very quiet atmosphere; I recommend a boat trip to the castle an hour from Bratislava and a visit to the castle, very unusual. Put Bratislava among your short breaks, also because it's very easy to reach!
