The story

if you want to know more or see all the photos visit: 21. 08. 2003 on the road to Krakow (POLAND) We're still travelling together with a small group of Sicilians and Genoese! Some play the guitar, some sing, some have water fights, some play pranks, some try to chat up the two Danish girls in our compartment... It's almost two in the morning and nobody feels like sleeping... [Luca]: Here's the interrail I remembered... People of all nationalities on a train having fun together... [Luca]: Gabriele had 200 Euros stolen from the money belt he had left unattended in another compartment. Luckily they left his ticket and passport. Gabriele will carry on travelling with us because Marco and I managed to scrape together some money for him. 22. 08. 2003 Auschwitz (POLAND) [Luca]: We visited Auschwitz... There's nothing to say... Here man hit rock bottom...

through cruelty, through poverty of spirit, through ignorance, through dead mercy-hope, through cold and fear, through having come terribly close to his beast nature... for this and for what I can't even bring myself to charge to a human being... I'm ashamed that I don't have the strength to accept that this is simply reality and nothing else... Pity the men who died and those who survived their death, pity us because we are still capable of all this, pity those who doubt and hate in silence, pity the man who fears living without these visions, pity the trees, the barbed wire and the blood-red walls for having been involuntary witnesses of man returning to dust... Pity those who will have to recount Auschwitz forever. 23. 08.

2003 Krakow (POLAND) [Luca]: Wandering around Krakow we get lost and on a tram a girl, Kasia, offers to take us to our hostel! We never stopped talking, "asking each other things"; it was really lovely, also because there's a strange magic to experiencing certain situations in these places... People are humble and don't seem to judge you at first contact... I'm happy to have lived yet another beautiful evening of my life and to have shared this lovely moment with someone capable of feeling my vibrations... I was telling her that you truly fall in love only when you fall in love not just with the person but also with the place, the situation... The person alone is almost never enough... Marco opens the tuna for our lunch, Gabriele looks for the water... If only we could have situations like this all year round! "But there is always what there is and never what there should be" Pessoa 24.

08. 2003 Wroclaw (POLAND) This city is a bit ambiguous. At times so delightful with its medieval buildings, its distinctive churches and a historic centre that has nothing to envy that of Krakow; in the evening, then, with its soft lights it gives you the impression that time might have stopped there, then you turn your gaze to the railway station with its casino, the night clubs, the porn video shops, the bars full of old drunks...
