The story
A day to visit a Lombard jewel.. The Royal Villa of Monza, with its immense park, is a large neoclassical building constructed in 1777 by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria for her son Ferdinand of Habsburg. Later it was used as a residence by the Italian royals, especially King Umberto I, who lived there until 1900, when he was assassinated in Monza itself. After a long period first of abandonment and then of decay, restoration work has recently begun aimed at returning the villa to its former splendour. Only a few unfurnished rooms can be visited by appointment, but with splendid floors and ceilings... The garden with its adjoining park, then, is wonderful!!!
