There's nothing to be done: when you grow up in a city, that city stays the most beautiful in the world! For me, who grew up and lived for many years in Viareggio, I can't imagine a nicer city to live in, even if, living now in the province of Rome, I certainly can't call myself unlucky. Viareggio is a seaside town of recent construction, maybe there were marshes here once, but today there's everything: obviously you won't find buildings that are centuries old, but the cities of art are really just a stone's throw away, large pine woods in the heart of the city that fill with tourists especially in summer, a big market open every month and every day of the year, nightclubs, a very long beach stretching across the whole of Versilia, the Apuan Alps behind for those who love the mountains and where, in nearby Carrara, Michelangelo chose the marble for his sculptural masterpieces.
The people are open, welcoming, with a keen sense of humour, very active culturally and with a "Viareggino" dialect kept alive in the various theatre performances and in the way people speak. There's everything, for anyone who wants a complete holiday but on a human scale. Not to be forgotten is the Carnival held in February: the big floats are so beautiful they leave you open-mouthed. WELL..WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO!
