Ischia is a wonderful island; in October the weather is still excellent, the crowds are reduced to a minimum, and there are many places to visit. We were lucky to stay in a modest but welcoming hotel on a half-board basis (plenty of good food). We didn't do it ourselves, but if you want you can rent scooters at very low prices to tour the island in complete freedom. From the top of the castle there is a breathtaking view, the sea is clean; in short, what more could you want? On the way back, a two-day stop in Naples: the city is an open-air bazaar, not everyone likes it but we do; you can find lots of things at good prices, and the Neapolitan dialect is particularly colourful and funny. Truly a lovely holiday.
