Hi everyone
here I am back from our weekend in Venice, it was a beautiful experience!!
I took loads of photos as usual, more than 200 in just two days... think how many I take in a week!!!! We set off on Saturday morning around 12.00 by train from Genoa to Milan and then from Milan to Venice, on a journey that seemed endless... we could not take any more, all those hours sitting down... let me off!!!! We arrived in Venice at 16.30 and unfortunately there was almost no sun left... just enough time to find the address of the little apartment that hosted us for the weekend... really lovely, small, on the ground floor. Once we had dropped our bags we went for a wander to start getting our bearings...
it is a nightmare, the streets all look the same!! Since we were starting to feel a bit peckish we first went to book at the restaurant for dinner and then as an aperitif we had two nice sandwiches made with the local dark bread in the most famous bar in Venice, frequented by locals; in fact to our right a little group of people was arguing animatedly in Venetian dialect... eheheh how funny to hear them.
After refreshing ourselves properly we took a walk in the cold through the alleys; the thing that strikes you most are the bridges, over 400 in the whole city, the water, it is everywhere!! and the little shops with masks, each one prettier than the last, a real Venetian little shop!!! Here is one in the photo!! From there we headed to the restaurant near the Rialto Bridge (beautiful) with all those little shops on the sides and then a spectacular view over the Grand Canal where the barges and gondolas pass. During dinner I tasted some typical dishes like baccala, polenta, scallops and a homemade dessert. That is how our first half-day in Venice came to an end.
Second day
After getting ready we went out to start the new day wandering around Venice. By now we had Venice in our grasp... our little house was in a very strategic position, on the right there is the station and on the left the Rialto Bridge and San Marco, so we moved around very quickly, having worked out a plan to see all the part we had missed. So we went right as far as the station and from there towards San Marco, always through the little streets, and ended up in the Giardini degli Schiavoni, right at the very end, just in time to admire San Marco from a distance at sunset!! How romantiiiic, hugged up to my boyfriend I started thinking about how lucky and happy I am at this moment... it would be lovely if this moment never ended!
Third day
Damn, we have almost reached the end of this beautiful weekend... today we have to make the most of the day, so as soon as we were ready we went out and headed for the Rialto Bridge to do some shopping, including the bigoli (typical Venetian pasta) for our home and some little gifts. From there, after a very long walk that seemed never to end, we passed a gondolier and guess what... my love took me on a gondolaaaaaaa!!! I could not believe it at the time, then I realised as soon as I got on the gondola swaying on the calm water... at that point did you think I would not bring you back a souvenir of it too, just look:
A video:
The gondola ride was fantastic, it cost us a fortune but it was worth it!! It showed us the whole historic centre of Venice seen from the inner sea and then, coming out, the Grand Canal and even the Rialto Bridge (my favourite)!!! I could not believe it was so beautiful to be rocked by the gondola... he even gave us the blanket to put over our legs, it was sooo cold.
After thanking the gondolier Giannetto we continued our tour as far as San Marco, where we went into the cathedral museum, closed at that moment for a service; we saw it from above, fantastic! And then we even managed to get up the bell tower just in time to admire Venice from above, fabuloooooous, a shame that at that moment the bells started ringing and deafened us a metre away eheheh.
From there we went back to our legendary dark-bread sandwich bar for a snack before returning to Genoa... and to be safe we had another two sandwiches each made for the journey... unfortunately, reluctantly, we did the tour the other way round to pick up our bags and go to the station to catch the train that would take us home.
Guys, what a fantastic weekendkkkkk
Good night Meme
