Last part of the excursion, the sunset at (Oia), famous all over the world for its extremely romantic sunsets but also because it is the town of the VIPs since everything is very expensive there; just think that there an apartment costs 25,000 euros per square metre… do the maths for a moment!!! Here we took the mule for the very steep climb up to get to the top, it was great fun!!! For 5 euros the mule takes you all the way up to the top of the hill along the little path sheer above the sea.
Once you arrive in the village, all that is left is to wander around to find a spot to watch the sunset… almost impossible, since shortly before it fills up with people lying in wait, including the Japanese… so many of them!!! Let me reveal a curiosity: when the sunset begins, watch it carefully because it takes very little time to disappear, followed by a very long round of applause! 4 final part of the trip to Santorini by meme — published on August 8th, 2008
Fourth stop: Kamari – beautiful little beach – White Beach – end of trip
Today we did a very long tour of the whole island; we headed towards Red Beach, then turned right and, after a visit to the lighthouse, we came back and came across this beautiful little beach (Kamari beach), crystal-clear, transparent sea; in fact we immediately set off swimming to dive with the mask out in the open sea…. not content, we tried to swim from the little beach all the way to the white beach. We swam almost 500 metres going around the hill, but alas the white beach still was not in sight… however I did my first open-water swim against the current!!! I was so happy!!! On the little beach there was a small shop selling a bit of everything; among it I also found one of those still disposable underwater cameras; I bought it right away and we started taking lots of photos both of the fish and of ourselves, it was great fun!!
Coming back from the little beach we stopped at the most famous winery on the island, Santo Wines Winery, and we tasted the local wine, a sun-dried tomato sauce that was out of this world and the cheeses, all with an exceptional panoramic view sheer above the sea!
On the way back to the village we even managed to catch half an Orthodox mass (a complete bore, all sung); in theory we were supposed to go and see the oldest church on the island but we only saw it from outside because their mass was on.
