Lampedusa: our holiday for three

Lampedusa was definitely an unforgettable holiday because we left as two and came back as three. We took the hydrofoil from Porto Empedocle; first we passed through Agrigento with its temples, which are truly magnificent, and in 4 hours we arrived on the island of Lampedusa. At the port the driver from our hotel was waiting for us… So we reached CALA CRETA in no time at all, also because the island is small and very easy to get around… The hotel is called I DAMMUSI and our little house is just like the typical dwelling of Lampedusa…. The next day we immediately hired a scooter and started visiting all the beaches on the island… The most beautiful is definitely the ISOLA DEI CONIGLI, where the sea is a bewitching blue….

You have to get there early in the morning because within a short time it fills up with people and then you can't find a spot…the descent to this beach needs gym shoes because it's very steep..but it's definitely worth it, the view that awaits you repays the effort… Very beautiful too are the GIUTGIA beaches near the port and CALA MADONNA and PORTO TNTONE We also did the boat trip around the island….it was very pleasant and fun…and as good food-lovers we also had an unforgettable feast of fish… One afternoon we also went to visit the island's WWF centre, which works to protect and care for the CARRETTA CARRETTA turtles that live and breed right at LAMPEDUSA… The last evening we got as far as the tip of the island, where there was an extraordinary view..and we also visited the little village church….

I recommend drinking the famous Sicilian GRANITE…they're truly delicious… The centre of the island is quite large, the main street is Via Roma, there are lots of restaurants and it's easy to run into people you saw during the day at the beach… This little island looks more like Africa than Italy…it rains very little and water is very precious…. It definitely deserves to be seen…4 days is the ideal time to visit it…
