Firenze , Pisa , Siena , Monteriggioni , San Galgano
After keeping my Brazilian friends company in Prague, it was obligatory (and an honour) to act as "Cicerone" to my friends here in Italy to show them the beauties of our country. For such a short period, my proposal was to spend a couple of days in Tuscany, using Florence as a base and moving from day to day to the region's various cities. In such a short time we visited Florence, Pisa, Siena, Monteriggioni and San Galgano…even though we wanted to also manage to see San Gimignano and Assisi with a small detour into Umbria. Of this experience I want to leave you just 2 pieces of advice, one regarding Florence and the other Siena. A very strong recommendation to anyone wanting to visit Florence for several days is to arrive by train, since finding a free parking space is impossible…..and it's almost impossible to find one paid at a decent cost.
Near the hotel you can sometimes try, at your own risk, to park without being the owner of the municipal permit, since the fine corresponds to the same value as leaving the car daily in one of the nearby paid car parks, but be careful because on some days the car can be removed due to the street cleaning service. A few times I left the car on the main ring road where the payment hours ended at 8pm and resumed at 8am the next day, but to be honest this situation of finding parking was quite inconvenient. For everything else, Florence is a wonderful city. My advice for Siena, on the other hand, is to try tasting the "Ciccini" (the name should be right), which are a kind of delicious flatbread and for me were a pleasant surprise. We tried them at a little kiosk on Via Dupre, right behind the Town Hall of Piazza del Campo.
