SARDINIA TRAVEL DIARY 2005
Travellers: Tano and Caterina
Destination: eastern Sardinia from 21 June to 04 July 2005
Before leaving: research on the internet
Bookings made: Through the travel agency we booked a cabin on the ferry (Palermo - Cagliari) and a parking space for the car.
The trip to Sardinia was deliberately made in the low season. We made no hotel bookings, thinking we wouldn't have any trouble (the period allowed for it). We devoted ourselves to the eastern part of the island. The places visited were the following, in order: - Santa Maria Navarrese, a charming little village in the Gulf of Orosei and a strategic base for visiting the beautiful Cala Luna and Cala Mariuolo and the beaches of Barisardo; - Orosei, from which it is possible to visit the protected beach of Bidderosa (nature reserve) - Porto Cervo with the beautiful beaches of Cala del Principe and Cala Volpe - Muravera and Villasimius - Cagliari All the beaches we visited are beautiful and feature crystal-clear water - after all, Sardinia is known throughout the world for its splendid beaches. We spent hours snorkelling.
Sardinia does not offer a wide culinary variety, but both the typical pasta dishes and the Sardinian purceddu are particularly good. In the area of Santa Maria Navarrese, ask for the local Golgo restaurant - it is truly worth it; we went twice, fascinated both by the landscapes you see on the way to the place and by the delicious purceddu. There were no difficulties in finding accommodation (we can't guarantee anything for the high season) and the prices were reasonable. Porto Cervo is beautiful, but it's worth bringing what you need for the day to avoid bleeding money (a cone with one scoop 5,00 euro). We liked Sardinia very much and plan to return to visit the northern part.
