The charm of the DOLOMITES

Finally a few days away from work and from Milan. The destination of our mini vacation is Trentino and more precisely Val di Fassa. Finally I return after years to the places that for a while characterized my childhood. In fact, thanks to my parents, as a child we often spent our summer holidays in Trentino. The charm of the Dolomites is stupendous, you notice it right away, as soon as you leave the highway at Ora, you begin slowly to climb. The green of the meadows is the dominant color, after all it doesn't happen every day to be stopped at a traffic light and to your right have a green meadow that "hosts" grazing cows. We arrive in Canazei when the sun has already set quite a while ago. Once settled in the hotel, they advise us to go have dinner in a small chalet entirely in wood not far from where we were staying.

Marmolada - Cortina -Alleghe -Canazei

The next day upon waking, opening the windows of the room we realize that something seemed to "loom over" us...the Marmolada. The climate especially in the morning is very very biting so much so that our car was completely iced over and we had to wait about 20 minutes before the windows allowed us to see anything outside. First stop as per the program is Cortina. Along the way we had to go over a few passes, mountain passes, some completely snow-covered. One of these is the legendary Pordoi pass which immediately brings the mind back to the memorable stages of the Giro d'Italia cycling race. The sky was beautiful and crystal clear so much so that from the top of the pass the panoramic photos were breathtaking, mountains and only mountains, mostly snow-covered. We resume our journey and arrive in Cortina around lunchtime, just enough time to do some shopping and have lunch.

A walk through the streets of the center of the most glamorous town of the Dolomites and surely the winter capital of the Alps given the number of VIPs who every year storm it to spend their Christmas and New Year's holidays there. Unfortunately given the season all the ski lifts, cable cars, chairlifts, gondola lifts etc... were still closed so we limited ourselves to seeing the mountains "from below", a pity... Having set off again we stop at Alleghe where by car you drive alongside its beautiful lake of a thousand colors, among other things further enhanced by the sun at sunset.

Another stupendous lake that we come across on the road back to Canazei is that of Carezza...a pity it's incredibly completely frozen.

Having left the hotel early we head back home. Along the way, however, we couldn't not make a stop at San Martino di Castrozza. Before arriving there we cross the small village of Bellamonte and immediately my mind goes back years to when I used to come camping in these areas with my parents, everything is just as it was many years ago. Once we arrive in San Martino you can't help but notice the mountain that looms over it called precisely Le Pale di San Martino.

Tranquility and silence reign in these mountain towns; in truth we don't meet many people but after all it isn't really the time of year when there's tourism, all the better...Since we're in the mountains, better to stay outdoors so we buy some sandwiches with cold cuts and decide to have a nice picnic in the middle of the greenery...how lovely!!! We set off again and in the early afternoon we stop at Moena, another destination of the Val di Fassa, where you absolutely must admire the splendor of the lake in whose waters the surrounding mountains are reflected…truly beautiful…alas though our tour has come to an end, but with the certainty that we will SURELY RETURN TO TRENTINO!!
