The Coral Riviera... the stretch of coast between Alghero and Bosa.
In planning this trip I made use of the information contained on the website
Our journey to visit the beaches of the Coral Riviera begins at Porto Alabe. We are just outside the territory of the municipality of Bosa, but the beach is still worth visiting, if only because a path starts here that leads to the beautiful Torre della Columbargia. Leaving Porto Alabe, we cross the territory of the municipality of Magomadas and the first beach we come across is that of Turas with its characteristic dark sand. A few kilometres further on and we reach Bosa with its long beach known as Bosa Marina, behind which we find the mouth of the river Temo. The beach joins the mainland to the well-known Isola Rossa, on which stands one of the many fortification towers scattered along all the coasts of Sardinia.
Leaving Bosa in the direction of Alghero we immediately come to the locality of S'Abba Drucche (which in Sardinian means "the fresh water") with its three beautiful little coves, easily accessible on foot. Next comes the splendid Cala Cumpoltittu, reachable on foot in 15 minutes via a steep path that descends quickly towards the sea, or else directly by sea. Another few kilometres further on, after the spot known as Torre Argentina, much loved by campers, we find Cala Managu. This cove (the beach is pebbly) is reachable by land only if you are equipped with a powerful off-road vehicle. At this point we enter the stretch of coast that falls within the territory of the municipality of Villanova Monteleone, characterised by long cliffs and which therefore counts as its only beach that of La Speranza in the locality of Poglina.
Having passed the beach of La Speranza as well, we come to the famous Cala Burantinu, which it is advisable to reach always by sea. At this point we reach the city of Alghero, characterised by the presence of several little coves such as, for example, Calabòna and Las Tronas. The main beach of the city, however, is the Lido di San Giovanni, a long strip of fine silver-coloured sand. If from Alghero you take the road to Fertilia you then come to the beach of Maria Pia with the pine wood behind it. Then follow the localities of Punta Negra and above all those of le Bombarde and the Lazzaretto, near which stands another watchtower and which characterises the panorama you can enjoy while lying on golden sand. Continuing further north you enter the Bay of Porto Conte, whose main beaches are those of Maristella/Porto Conte and Mugoni, as well as the coves of Tramariglio, Calcina and Dragunara.
Then, having passed Capo Caccia, in order Cala d'Inferno, Cala Puntette and Cala Barca (all reachable only and exclusively by sea). The next stops are, finally, the beautiful Cala di Torre del Porticciolo and the beach of Porto Ferro, particularly loved by surfers.
