I've seen Venice in every season, but never at Carnival, so we decided the time had come to throw ourselves into the chaos. We slept in a hostel in Murano and the choice turned out to be spot on, both for the price (which in Venice at this time of year is exorbitant) and for the location. As soon as we got off the train we went to claim our rooms and then straight onto the ferry to St Mark's Square. We spent the day photographing masks and wandering the alleyways jammed with "pedestrian traffic". Sunday morning was spent in the streets of Murano, in and out of every shop, showing the children how blown glass is made. Back in Venice, lunch, and then another stroll around St Mark's Square before catching the ferry to the station. A truly fun weekend. Hilary
