My wife and I discovered a green valley in Alto Adige: the Sarentino Valley. We set off without a booking, and after meeting the grumpy owner of a local hotel who told us everything was full, a kind local lady pointed us to the Hollriegl hotel, a 2-star where we found accommodation with half board. The area is very beautiful and full of hikes and walks. Favoured by good weather, we went to Lake Valdurna, a delightful little alpine lake full of trout. Another time we drove to St. Martin, a hamlet at 1500 m in the Sarentino area. From there a convenient cable car took us to 2100 m, from where, along trails of varying difficulty, you can reach 2500 m. The following Saturday and Sunday there was the village festival, which is held every 2 years. There were various local bands in Tyrolean costumes, many food stalls and rivers of beer.
On the last day, instead of going down towards Bolzano, we went further to the Pennes pass and descended to Vipiteno, a lovely town rich in history. Angelo
